Djungelskog (stylised in all caps; Swedish pronunciation: [ˈjɵ̂ŋːɛlːˌskuːɡ] ⓘ, lit. 'jungle forest') is a plush toy manufactured and sold by the Swedish furniture and home goods store IKEA.[‡ 1] It has quickly become one of the most popular stuffed toys sold by the company[1] alongside the stuffed shark Blåhaj.[2]
Physical description
Djungelskog is 100 centimetres (39 in) long, is stuffed with 100% polyester, and resembles a brown bear.[‡ 1] A smaller variant of the plush toy is also available at 28 centimetres (11 in).[‡ 2] It was originally designed for children aged 3 to 7 years old.[3]
History
The stuffed bear was released in April 2018[4], alongside a series of jungle-themed items with the same name. It was originally only available in countries such as Japan,[5] however it was released in the United States in July 2023 due to popular demand.[1] Although the soft toy was already highly coveted and popular, the release of the stuffed animal in the US further boosted its popularity. It became a best-selling item and had "sales five times higher than expected", according to the head of home furnishing for children for IKEA.[1] It has sustained a following on social media sites such as Reddit and Twitter.[6][7][8] Some social media users dress the stuffed animal in different clothes.[9][10]
In 2022, an actinobacteriophage found by students at Marist University was named after Djungelskog.[11][12]
