Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Uncontroversial technical requests
- World Series Most Valuable Player Award → World Series Most Valuable Player (currently a redirect back to World Series Most Valuable Player Award) (move · ) – For consistency with other award articles, such as the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. Also relevant is this discussion on the NBA Finals MVP page. MarcusAbacus (talk) 03:08, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- William Crump (Texas politician) → William E. Crump (currently a redirect back to William Crump (Texas politician)) (move · ) – He was a politician in North Carolina as well, not only in Texas. His full name is William Edmond Crump. Aquabluetesla (talk) 00:56, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- Zael, Province of Burgos → Zael (currently a redirect back to Zael, Province of Burgos) (move · ) – There's no need for the extra disambiguation as there's no other article for a subject titled "Zael" on Wikipedia. Barr Theo (talk) 00:49, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- Makati OKBet Kings → Makati Super Crunch (currently a redirect back to Makati OKBet Kings) (move · ) – Inactive basketball team; the "Makati Super Crunch" name was used also longer (2018 to 2021) and is attached to the team's most successful stint (as is the case for Great Taste Coffee Makers). MarcusAbacus (talk) 10:18, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hugues de Payens → Hugo de Paganis (currently a redirect back to Hugues de Payens) (move · ) – there is a longstanding dispute about their name and origin, which we already detail in the article (§ Name and Origin and early life), and the Latin name is the only one every single source agrees upon, hence being the most neutral and common. Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 04:44, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Est. 2021: I'm a bit skeptical. Not necessarily contesting but people didn't casually speak Latin by the time Payens lived, so the fact that he had a consistent written form of his name in Latin isn't that interesting for someone not known solely by their Latin letters, say. Regardless of whether he was born French or Italian, he ended up in France, no? So what's the issue with using the French name? The lede itself says he is "commonly" known that way (and used to only introduce him as such before your edits), although maybe I'm misinterpreting it... SnowFire (talk) 03:58, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- @SnowFire: Well, he actually didn't. If we ignore all theories about his early life under similar yet different names (none of them as "Hugues de Payens"), he only was in France for the Council of Troyes and to meet saint Bernard, but he basically lived in the Kingdom of Jerusalem until his death. After that, sources say he was buried in Ferrara, Italy, as you can check at Death, and even French authors cite that. Blaise de Pagan, Pierre Dupuy, etc. Note that the Italian name was already well attested before the 16th century, while no source has ever used the current French name before the 19th century altered "translations" by Paulin Paris. Yet we can't be sure about anything about him, even the Portuguese claimed him, so I think the Latin name, shared and agreed upon by all sources, is the most neutral, besides the most frequent among all sources. - Kung Fu Wa! → Kung Fu Sock (currently a redirect back to Kung Fu Wa!) (move · ) – More known english name. I was JustAWaddleDee (talk) 22:08, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Draft:Qasim Shesho → Qasim Shesho (currently a redirect instead to Haydar Shesho) (move · ) – They are different people (uncle/nephew relationship). The redirect blocks creation of a legitimate article. Kuripenjwen (talk) 23:57, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Note: Converted to the standard formatting for a request. The deletion/treatment of redirect is implicit. – robertsky (talk) 00:55, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Draft:Scarlet (2025 film) → Scarlet (2025 film) (currently a redirect instead to Mamoru Hosoda) (move · ) – A teaser was recently released, and the release date and poster were revealed. ColeFrye (talk) 19:28, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Heart by Heart → Heart by Heart (Demi Lovato song) (currently a redirect back to Heart by Heart) (move · ) – The song by Joe Jonas of the same name has an article under Heart by Heart (Joe Jonas song) and is rising fast in popularity, so I think a disambiguator is needed to avoid confusion between the two songs. 153.33.109.250 (talk) 20:19, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Candidates of the 2025 Canadian federal election → Results of the 2025 Canadian federal election by riding (currently a redirect back to Candidates of the 2025 Canadian federal election) (move · ) – Redirect is blocking move to standard post-election title format. - ta panta rhei → panta rhei (doctrine) (currently a redirect back to Ta panta rhei) (move · ) – original title Xpander (talk) 23:54, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Contested technical requests
- Okinawa Habu (currently a redirect to Okinawa habu) → Okinawa habu (move · ) – Move over redirect. No objection on the previous talk page Protobothrops_flavoviridis over two months. Background: There are two snake species that are commonly referred to as "habu" or "Okinawa habu" without differentiation in common speech; given WP:COMMONNAME, the main article should be about the general usage with subsections or subarticles for the particular species as needed by toxologists to differentiate. 69 of 70 existing wikilinks were to the common name not to a particular species of the two. -- Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert (talk) 20:48, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Contesting this one, and I have reverted the page move of Protobothrops_flavoviridis. Given that Okinawa habu has historically been a disambiguation page, and the title appears to be ambiguous, we'd probably default to the scientific names by default, but I'd suggest it needs an WP:RM discussion anyway. — Amakuru (talk) 08:49, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Girl in Red → girl in red (currently a redirect back to Girl in Red) (move · ) – Nocaps to be consistent with artist's preferred sylisation à la xkcd. –DMartin 04:09, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- Needs discussion, including overwhelming WP:COMMONNAME evidence of the lowercase "r". 162 etc. (talk) 17:27, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- Child of God (disambiguation) → Child of God (move · ) – A new DAB page was recently created, and since there is no primary topic Child of God should be moved to Child of God (novel) and the DAB moved to Child of God. Sophisticatedevening🍷(talk) 16:25, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Sophisticatedevening WP:PRIMARYTOPIC changes are not uncontroversial and the pageviews for all the links on the DAB page do not help the argument that there is not a primary topic. cyberdog958Talk 00:34, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Portsmouth → Portsmouth, Hampshire (currently a redirect back to Portsmouth) (move · ) – All of the other places named Portsmouth (West Yorkshire, Dominica, Ontario, Rhode Island, Virginia, North Carolina, etc. All have their title as "Portsmouth, (x); while Portsmouth, Hampshire is only titled "Portsmouth". I suggest changing that to "Portsmouth, Hampshire" to be in-line with all of the other cities. TSWindustries (talk) 20:19, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose Clear primary topic. Not to closing admin Please do not start a time consuming RM; please leave it to the brand new account if they want to proceed. Timrollpickering (talk) 20:25, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Timrollpickering Standard practice in RM/TR is that only the requestor should open the discussion (unless they specifically ask for help), hence the instructions for creating a requested move are listed under "if your technical request is contested". --Ahecht (TALK

- Gulf Coast Limited → Mardi Gras Service (currently a redirect back to Gulf Coast Limited) (move · ) – New name for restored train service has been officially announced. Train service is expected to start in coming months. Move has been proposed on talk page without pushback. QuincyMorgan (talk) 20:24, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose; split. These are two different services and should not share an article. 162 etc. (talk) 20:28, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 17:29, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support – The new train service is functionally identical to the previous services and simply its newest iteration. The only difference is the new name selected by Amtrak instead of using the historical one utilized by the previous iterations. There is no indication that this iteration is unrelated. It would be impractical if we had individual articles for each iteration, especially if the first and second iterations also had their own. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 18:16, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Tampa, Florida → Tampa (currently a redirect back to Tampa, Florida) (move · ) – Tampa redirects to Tampa, Florida. Given that its the only major city bearing that name, and that the page title "Tampa" is not in use other than being a redirect for the city, it should be the other way around. For example, Miami is the page title for the city of Miami, and Miami, Florida is a redirect page Edwki (talk) 04:57, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

- Just a note, the current arrangement is the result of recent consensus, and should not be considered uncontroversial. Good day—RetroCosmos talk 05:28, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Konow, Iran → Konow (currently a redirect back to Konow, Iran) (move · ) – One "Konow" for the surnames, and the other "Konow" for the place, just like one "Atienza" for the surnames, and the other "Atienza" for the place Barr Theo (talk) 18:54, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

- @162 etc.: Primary topic grabs?? Didn't you read what I said? I'm doing this in order to mirror Atienza, or are we just going to ignore that... Barr Theo (talk) 21:49, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- The surname page has been stable at Konow since 2008. If you are making a case for Konow, Iran as a primary topic, then it goes to RM. I'll refer you again to WP:PCM. 162 etc. (talk) 22:06, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
